Samsung Wibro-capable SPH-M8400 smartphone

Samsung has released a Wibro-capable SPH-M8400 smartphone in South Korea through KT. It runs on Windows Mobike 6.5 and comes with a 3.7-inch touchscreen Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) display with a 800 x 480 resolution, a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera, T-DBM digital mobile TV, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

KT has announced a new Samsung Windows Mobile smartphone, the SPH-M8400, featuring WIFI, WIMAX and 3G data. KT said its “3W” (WIFI, WIMAX, WCDMA) smartphone will boost wireless Internet usage, especially in hot spots where the phone can access Wi-Fi through its public Wi-Fi service, “Nespot” zone.The smartphone is a follow-up to the SCH-M8300 model, which was released on SK Telecom customers in May this year.

Ford Figo to be Launched soon in India

After the huge success of Ford Fiesta and Ford Ikon in mid-sized sedan segment now auto major Ford plans to launch another stunning model Ford Figo in Indian market to make it position strong also in premium hatchback segment. Ford Figo is a premium hatchback segment model that is expected to be launched in Indian market in the month of January this year. Indian auto market is dominated by hatchback segment cars as more than 70% customers comes for small hatchback segment cars but company’s existing hatchback model Ford Fusion is not doing well in this segment. So, the company wants to tap more market share in this segment with the launch of Ford Figo.

Hitachi Maxell Released New 500GB iVDR Portable Hard Disk

Hitachi Maxell released the iV 500GB in Japan, a new portable hard disk drive (iVDR) capable of recording up to 400 hours of high-definition video.

iVDR, or Information Versatile Disk for Removable usage, is a portable HDD cartridge standard. The standard is managed by the iVDR Hard Disk Drive Consortium, which consists largely of Japanese corporations. It provides the benefits of HDD technology, while going against the trend of smaller storage formats. Transfer speeds are up to 1.5 Gbit/s over SATA.The iDVR media can be used either as a rewritable medium for recording TV programs or as a library for storing content.

Hitachi's latest "iV" 500GB capacity model can be used to store high-definition digital broadcasts, which are highly popular in Japan. Consumers in Japan are able to download a high-definition movie onto an HDD built into an "acTVila"-compatible TV, which is equipped with an iVDR slot. Using the "acTVila Video Download Sell" service they can transfer the program to an iVDR at high speed.

Samsung Lindy M5650 : Features, Price And Specification

Samsung has launched a new touchscreen phone in Europe without much fanfare. In fact, there has not been even the customary press release regarding the announcement of the Samsung Lindy M5650.

The Samsung Lindy M5650, by the looks of it, is a scaled up version of Samsung's existing Corby with both sharing similar visual cues. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised if you won't mistake it for the Corby at first glance. The Samsung Lindy M5650 boasts of an upgraded camera, HSDPA support and comes with Wi-Fi as well. The camera is now a 3 megapixel unit instead of the Corby's 2 megapixel one. A dedicated music key also finds its way in. There is no change in the screen size, which remains at 2.8-inches. A major disappointment on this one is the lack of a 3.5mm jack.

Other features too, like Bluetooth, stereo FM radio with RDS, 50MB of internal memory, and MicroSD card support remain unchanged. The Samsung Lindy M5650 is now on sale in Spain and Portugal for $235 (Rs. 11,000 approx.). Incidentally, Samsung is also working on a slightly upgraded version of the Corby with Wi-Fi as reported.

TVS Jive : Price, Review And Specification

TVS's Jive is a fusion of the Star's chassis, albeit with some modifications and the 110cc powerplant. Even more rocking is the introduction of the Tmatic system - a double clutch unit derived from TVS Indonesia. So when you start the Jive and engage first gear or any gear for that matter there is no clutch lever to pull. After tapping into gear you just need to accelerate to get going.

It all works surprisingly well and without any fuss whatsoever. Thanks to the double-clutch system you can come to a stop in any gear without stalling the engine. Volkswagen is likely to announce the launch of Beetle in India, in the beginning of December 2009. However, unlike what is being believed, the veteran car company does not have any plans to compete with the Indian toy car, Nano; as the Beetle will be priced 15 times more, due to the high duty imposed on imported cars. Moreover, the vintage car will provide a speed limit as high as 180 km/hr, whereas the Nano can only touch up to 103 km/hr. Beetle has a conventional front engine.

The Kingston DataTraveler 300 is the world's most capacious USB flash drive at 256GB. The plastic case Feels too easy to crack, though, and there's no cover for the USB connector. Still, performance isn't bad. Kingston DataTraveler 300 wrote 3,000 small files, totalling 300MB, in 2 mins 6secs, and read them back in 18.7 seconds. 3GB test file was written in 6 mins 16 secs, and read back in 1 min 54secs, for a sequential read speed of 26.9MB/sec, which isn't far behind an external USB hard disk. But the sequential write speed of 8.2MB/sec is miles behind the 28.7MB/sec of recent USB hard disks, and Kingston DataTraveler 300 would take 4hrs 30 mins to fill the drive. We can see the appeal, but the price - a preposterous £2.50 per usable gigabyte - makes Kingston DataTraveler 300 little more than a status symbol for the wealthiest of geeks.

Dell S2409W : Review And Features

Dell's 24in models have always been popular in the PC Pro office, and while the S2409W may not be one of the manufacturer's all-singing, all-dancing models, Dell S2409W does offer a high-quality panel at a reasonable price. So you won't find expensive extras such as USB ports or fully adjustable stands the S2409W's stand only tilts and Dell hasn't even seen fit to include a set of basic integrated speakers. All this helps to keep the price low, but unlike many other sub-£200 monitors it doesn't sacrifice image quality in the process.

High-definition video clips looked sharp and detailed on the lOSOp panel, and the 5ms
response time - slightly down on the 2ms of most here - didn't manifest itself in any noticeable blurring in fast scenes. Plus, if you do need audio during a gaming session, there's a headphone output that will work if you're connected via the HDMI port. Other than that you get the usual DVI and VGA connectors, and a three-year on-site warranty with next business day response times. If Dell had managed to squeeze all this into a price just a little lower, the 52409W might walk away with an award this month. As Dell S2409W is, it's crowded out by the £177 LG, with its fullyadjustable stand and integrated speakers. We'd go for that every time, but the Dell is a close runner-up.

Asus VW246H : Features, Price And Review

The design is pleasant enough, with the usual Asus silver strip along the bottom of the frame and the control buttons clearly labelled at the bottom-right. The menu is a little small, but there are plenty of options.Even then, we saw notable backlight bleed at the top and bottom of our black test screen, although it must be said the black level on the whole was actually pretty deep. Our white test screen was fairly bright and mostly even, with just a small dark area towards the top edge, and gradients were smooth. Colours were a little off, though, with a cold tone to the panel that we couldn't eliminate to a satisfying degree, and this puts its image score behind similarly priced 1080p rivals such as the Dell and LG.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have any major design features to claw back that deficit, with a fixed-height stand and no luxuries such as USB ports. True, the 2W speakers are loud enough to use for personal entertainment, and there's an HDMI port to go with DVI and VGA, but that's hardly unusual this month. All in alL the VW246H is undoubtedly an attractive monitor and it does come at a reasonable price, but other TFTs in the group offer everything it does and more.

Acer H243H : Features,Price And Review

At first glance you'd be forgiven for thinking Acer has been admiring Samsung's consumer
monitors recently, for the sleek black H243H is glossy, curvy and features a nice set of glowing touch-sensitive controls beneath the screen. But get a little closer and the comparison doesn't really hold up. The problem is the difference in build quality: this Acer H243H simply isn't in Samsung's league, with a cheap, plasticky feel to the chassis, and a frustrating lack of responsiveness to those buttons. It makes setup a little awkward, particularly as the "left" and "right" buttons actually correspond to up and down movements in the laggy menu.

Poor design aside, though, the Acer H243H performed pretty well in our image quality
tests. It didn't wow us with either its deep blacks or bright whites, but both were perfectly acceptable - the former showed only a thin sliver of backlight bleed, and the panel was evenly lit. Our gradient ramps showed a smooth and even progression from black to white, and a slightly orangey red was the only notable problem with its otherwise decent colour reproduction.

Like most here, it has a 16:91,920 x 1,080 panel, and while the H243H comes with only a
basic fixed stand, you'll find HDMI, DVI and VGA ports on the back, as well as a reasonable set of IW speakers. But everything the Acer does, others do better: the LG, for example, has a similar core specificarion but better design and build, a lifting, pivoring stand and superior image quality for considerably less. With this in mind, the Acer looks merely average.

After years of trying, has Microsoft finally beat Apple at its own game? Well, not quite. But the fantastic Zune HD certainly gives the iPod touch some worthy competition. The touch and Zune HD seem nearly identical in touch screen sensitivity. Microsoft's software updates, however, are still clunkier than Apple's. The best new music feature on the Zune HD is the ability to purchase music wirelessly, thanks to integrated 802.11g. NOW WE have HDTV, what's next? 3D TV. 3D movies have been taking off at the box office. About 15 major feature films will be released in 3D in 2009, with twice that number set for 2010. HDTV manufacturers are scrambling to support 3DTV Both plasma and 120Hz LCD technology are adaptable to 3DTV using active glasses—not the passive glasses used in most 3D movie theaters. Active glasses use LCD material to block the light first to one eye and then to the other, at very fast rates. By synchronizing them to the content on the HDTV, 3DTV technology can present full-resolution 1080p images sequentially to the left and right eyes, and still have a total frame rate of 60Hz. Other technologies can show 3D images with either passive glasses or no glasses at all, but are too expensive to manufacture or have significant viewing limitations.

One roadblock for 3D content has been the lack of an industry standard, but that's changing
fast. Hollywood already adds depth information to many of its films, and translates this into
different formats that different cinema projection systems use—the RealD system based on
polarized light, for example, or the Dolby system that relies on sophisticated RGB color filters
to create stereoscopic images. Creating a similar "home 3D master" is not that difficult—SMPTE
(an organization of industry engineers) is well on the way to defining such a specification.
Such a master can provide data for a range of display formats. And the Blu-ray Disc Associa-
tion is working on a standard for storing 3D on on prepackaged media. HDTVs can be made to work with a variety of 3D data-stream formats.Down the road, HDTVs should be 3D as well.

At one time, Sony's Walkman brand was synonymous with audio players, but in recent years it has run second place to Apple's iPod. The SONY Walkman NWZ-X1060 could see those fortunes reversed.
The first thing you notice is how good SONY NWZ-X1060 looks and how solid it feels. At 98g, it's heavier than the Cowon, but we feel its worthwhile, as it feels as if it'll stand up to some heavy usage. The layout of the function buttons seems arbitrary, but Sony has done a good job, with
volume and noise cancellation buttons on the right-hand side, and a 3.5mm audio socket and Play/Pause, Forward and Reverse buttons neatly together on the top.

The screen is a 3-inch OLED display, while the back of the player is made from scratch-resistant plastic. The touchscreen display is highly responsive and the interface is neatly constructed around a grid pattern, with all functions carried out from the bottom of the screen. Navigating the menu is comfortable and easy. Audio quality is also great. The EQ is easy to get to grips with, but the audio is reasonably balanced even in default settings. The earphones supplied are also of excellent quality, offering noise-cancelling and three different bud sizes.

Sony claims 33 hours of continuous audio playback. The Sony Walkman NWZ-X1060 is an astonishing media player, delivering top-quality audio, video and images. Paired with its great battery life and excellent earphones, this may well be the new benchmark for audio players.

The Cowon iAudio S9 has a simple but elegant design. Based around a 3.3-inch OLED screen, there are no other controls on the front of the device. The screen's display was impressive and crisp. Sound was a strong point: Though you won't get booming bass or extreme clarity, the frame cranks out better audio than most laptops do. HP ENVY 13 : HP's Slickest Laptop

THE HP ENVY 13 is a PC answer to Apple's MacBook Pro: It's similarly sleek but costs a bit more, starting at $1699 . It comes with a 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SL9600 CPU, 3GB of RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 discrete GPU. The laptop is 12.6 by 8.5 by 0.8 inches and weighs 3.1 pounds. It earned a nice WorldBench 6 score of 94. You can play HD video on the crisp, glossy 13.1-inch backlit LED screen—but reflections on it will be distracting. The Envy has hightech Beats audio, but you'll need headphones or earbuds to appreciate it. Though the touchpad's multitouch functionality works, the mouse buttons are poorly placed.The keyboard is fine. The notebook has a couple of USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI out, an SD flash-card reader,and a headphone/mic jack.

Missing are ports for wired ethernet and VGA (you do get Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi). And it has no optical drive—you must buy an external one (starting at $100 for a DVD-ROM version). Asus is the latest company to release a host of CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) laptops, with the slimline UX30 sitting at the top of its ultraportable range. Unlike the Advent Altro (reviewed on page 6g) - a budget CULV machine - the Asus UX30 uses a range-topping Core 2 Duo SUg4oo chip that promises a mix of power efficiency and dual-core processing. Asus UX30 also allowsthis machine to be incredibly portable-measuring just 24mm at its thickest point and weighing just 1.5kg, The downside is the price which, at £999 (inc, VAT], is likely to be far out of the range of many consumers. It's easy to see where the money has been spent, however, as build quality is fantastic. The brushed-aluminium lid offers a premium finish and the slim chassis is robust.

Pico projectors—defined as small enough to fit comfortably in a shirt pocket—don't qualify as new anymore, but they're still rare. Just try using one in a public space—connecting it to a camera to show a friend some photos,say—and see what happens. You'll quickly find that it's high on the list of gadgets that encourage total strangers to come over and start conversations. Also, the audio quality and volume limit was lackluster. But you do get good battery life, lasting 4 hours in Normal mode, All told, the Mpro120 is an attractive choice as both a hard-to-resist gadget and a potentially useful tool.

The T400s Multitouch incites lust among business users. It has the ThinkPad X301's exquisitely thin dimensions, with a 14-inch LED widescreen to boot, It's the lightest business laptop in its class—and that's with the internal optical drive. The latest edition takes advantage of Microsoft's Touch Pack and other touch-friendly applications made for Windows 7 and is, bar
none, the best implementation of a multitouch panel yet on a laptop.

The T400s is considerably thinner than the ThinkPad T400, measuring 13.3 by 9.4 by 1.1 inches (H WD),but weighs a bit more than the original T400s—4.4 pounds versus 3.9. Unfortunately, the T400s had to unload certain features to achieve this thinness; it has only one memory card reader slot and no FireWire port. It does, however, have every wireless technology built-in—3G, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS chip. And hard drive options include a 128GB SSD.But the big story is obviously the new multitouch gestures. By tapping two fingers on the screen, you invoke a series of icons called Simple Tap. You can also customize screen icons for commonly used apps and tasks. Though Simple Tap could be a bit temperamental, otherwise the touch features worked like a charm.

Though finding the right business implementation for the multitouch screen could prove a challenge, this new T400s is nonetheless an exciting look ahead for Windows 7 systems.
