ASUS Launches ROG G73Jh Gaming Notebook

href="file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5Cjohn%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp%5Cmsohtmlclip1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml">

The new ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) G73Jh is like no other gaming notebook. Eschewing the flash and gimmicks typical of gaming notebooks, the G73Jh instead boasts an understated, subtly aggressive design inspired by a stealth fighter. At its heart lies the most powerful components available today, including the latest Intel Core i7 processor, DirectX 11-capable ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics, and up to 8 GB of DDR3 system memory.

The G73Jh sports a striking angular design inspired by the iconic F-117 Nighthawk. Far from being merely cosmetic, every facet of the G73Jh's design reflects a conscious effort to improve the user experience. For example, the placement of all the heat and noise-generating components at the rear of the notebook and the implementation of a unique twin rear venting system keep the heat and noise as far away from the user as possible. The innovative placement of components also allows the palm rest to be exceptionally thin, just like a desktop keyboard. Furthermore, the keyboard plane is inclined 5 degrees, improving ergonomics and thus ensuring optimal comfort while gaming and typing.

ASUS SBC-04DIS-U Blue Ray Player

The ASUS SBC-04DIS-U looks splendid and stylish due to its slim form factor and casing, with a piano-black finish. This, however, also means that the surface quickly gathers fingerprints and dust. The build quality is very sturdy. Internally, it is a laptop Blu-ray drive and is therefore a low power device that can work on power drawn through the same USB cable, which is the data cable.

The ASUS SBC-04DIS-U comes with a stand that can be simply snapped onto it to make it stand upright. It therefore goes without saying that the drive supports vertical disc placement. The stand has a rubberized surface at the bottom to prevent the drive from moving around.SUS, like most other prominent Blu-ray manufacturers, has gone the CyberLink way. It comes with Blu-ray Disc Suite, which is a collection of many different software to view normal and HD content as well as create and burn DVDs and much more.

Asus VW246H : Features, Price And Review

The design is pleasant enough, with the usual Asus silver strip along the bottom of the frame and the control buttons clearly labelled at the bottom-right. The menu is a little small, but there are plenty of options.Even then, we saw notable backlight bleed at the top and bottom of our black test screen, although it must be said the black level on the whole was actually pretty deep. Our white test screen was fairly bright and mostly even, with just a small dark area towards the top edge, and gradients were smooth. Colours were a little off, though, with a cold tone to the panel that we couldn't eliminate to a satisfying degree, and this puts its image score behind similarly priced 1080p rivals such as the Dell and LG.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have any major design features to claw back that deficit, with a fixed-height stand and no luxuries such as USB ports. True, the 2W speakers are loud enough to use for personal entertainment, and there's an HDMI port to go with DVI and VGA, but that's hardly unusual this month. All in alL the VW246H is undoubtedly an attractive monitor and it does come at a reasonable price, but other TFTs in the group offer everything it does and more.

Asus unveils the stick-thin UX30

Asus is the latest company to release a host of CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) laptops, with the slimline UX30 sitting at the top of its ultraportable range. Unlike the Advent Altro (reviewed on page 6g) - a budget CULV machine - the Asus UX30 uses a range-topping Core 2 Duo SUg4oo chip that promises a mix of power efficiency and dual-core processing. Asus UX30 also allowsthis machine to be incredibly portable-measuring just 24mm at its thickest point and weighing just 1.5kg, The downside is the price which, at £999 (inc, VAT], is likely to be far out of the range of many consumers. It's easy to see where the money has been spent, however, as build quality is fantastic. The brushed-aluminium lid offers a premium finish and the slim chassis is robust.

The keyboard offers excellent usability.Although Asus UX30 doesn't stretch right to the edges of the chassis, the keys are well spaced, with each key protruding through individual holes in the chassis. As such, it's easy to comfortably type at speed The 13.3-inch screen is crisp and offers
great image quality, although the shiny finish proves highly reflective. Features include 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with Gigabit Ethernet, three USB ports, mini VGA and HDMi all in place,
A highly desirable laptop, the UX30's price tag may put off many consumers, but for those in the market for a quality, highly portable machine, it's well worth a look.

ASUS EeePC 1101HA:An Extra Wide Netbook

It's no secret that Intel and Microsoft have a firm grip on what a netbook may or may not use in terms of features and parts; hence the many
lookalikes in this pervasive category. But there are a handful of them that are considered exceptions to the rules. The ASUS EeePC 1101HA is one of maybe three netbooks that use an 11.6-inch widescreen and a higher resolution (1,366-by-768). In exchange for veering from the "guidelines,"
however, the IIOIHA had to settle for a slower Atom processor and a high price for a netbook. Still, it ranks right up there with some of the best oversized netbooks.

The 1101HA has a black lid that is a magnet for smudges and fingerprints, but it is also sleek and lightweight at 11.3 by 7.7 by 1 inches (HWD) and 3 pounds, managing to hide the bulk of the 6-celt battery. This netbook
loses points, however, for having an only 92 percent keyboard and sticky mouse keys.It scores points for including a Broadcom 802.11n Wi-Fi chip, a rarity among netbooks.

The 1101HA's 1.33-GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor isn't as fast as the 1.67-GHz N280 processors found in the ASUS 1000HE, Toshiba NB205, and HP 5101, but the Super Hybrid Enginer software lets you overclock it to 1.83 GHz. Being restricted to 1GB of memory and Intel integrated graphics didn't help the 1101HA's performance scores much. But it did deliver a good score on MobileMark 2007—6 hours 50 minutes. This is a top-tier oversize netbook, but the Acer A0751h is a better buy.

SPECS :
1.33-GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor.
1GB DDR2 SDRAM.
160GB, 5,400-rpm hard drive.
Intel GMA 950 graphics.
11.6-inch, l,366-by-768 display.
3.0 pounds (3.5 travel weight).
3 USB ports.
63-Wh, 5.2-Ahr battery.
Windows XP Home Edition.

PROS :Gorgeous 11.6-inch widescreen. Desirablescreen resolution. Very slim and light. Battery is designed almost flush with the base. Excellent
battery life.

CONS :Keyboard only 92 percent for an oversized netbook. AtomZ520 processor is a little sluggish. Not the cheapest 11.6-inch netbook.
